Phytocontrol laboratory offers you a seminar led by its scientific director Mr Eric Capodanno on the theme of chlorates.
Generaly chlorinated products (containing one or more chlorine atoms in their structure) have bactericidal and disinfectant properties and, therefore, are commonly used on the farm, in water treatment and industrial food manufacturing processes for sanitation purposes.
Chlorates (ClO3-) and other chlorine-derived residues have become a growing concern in dairy products, food and beverages in recent years.
Sodium potassium chlorate was used as a herbicide, but the use of plant protection and biocidal products containing chlorate are no longer allowed in the EU.
However, chlorates can be generated as a by-product when using chlorinated substances for cleaning or disinfection.
