Regulation 2020/1280 concerning the non-renewal of benalaxyl has just been published in the OJEU.
EFSA has highlighted some concerns including the potential contamination of groundwater with relevant metabolites of benalaxyl. There would also be a long-term risk to birds (secondary poisoning) and arthropods.
However, it could not be shown that this substance does not have endocrine disrupting properties.
Benalaxyl is currently authorized in the EU on many crops: bulb vegetables, eggplants, cucumbers, melons, leeks, potatoes, vines and tomatoes.
Member States must withdraw authorizations for plant protection products containing benalaxyl by 5 April 2021 at the latest.
The grace period granted by Member States for plant protection products containing this active substance expires on 5 October 2021 at the latest.
The regulations come into force from October 5, 2020.
Know that your Phytocontrol laboratory is able to search for benalaxyl under COFRAC accreditation. You can consult our COFRAC technical appendix N ° 1-1904 available in your customer area or on the COFRAC website.
