Regulation 2023/1536 amending regulation 396/2005 has just been published. It modifies the MRLs for nicotine in spices.
Seed and fruit spices (vanilla)
MRLs are currently set at 0.3 mg/kg.
Regulation 2023/337, published in February 2023, lowered this MRL to 0.02 mg/kg on 14/09/23.
Regulation 2023/1536 provides for this MRL to be raised to 0.05 mg/kg by 15/09/23.
Cinnamon
The MRL is currently set at 4 mg/kg.
Regulation 2023/337 will lower it to 0.07 mg/kg by 14/09/23.
Regulation 2023/1536 provides for an increase to 0.2 mg/kg by 15/09/23.
Teas
Article 2 of this regulation states that for teas produced or imported into the EU before 09/14/2023, the MRL of 0.6 mg/kg continues to apply.
This regulation applies from 15/09/2023.
