Mineral oils MOSH MOAH
Mineral oils (MOH) are complex mixtures derived from crude petroleum. They consist of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH). Mineral oils can be found in food at different stages of food production intentionally (food additives and pesticides) or not (lubricants, cleaning products...). Printing inks, adhesives, additives and processing aids in paper, cardboard and plastic packaging as well as in jute and sisal bags contain MOH. However, cardboard and packaging, particularly those made from recycled paper, remain one of the main sources of mineral oil migration into food.
The method developed in the laboratory is carried out by LC/GC/FID and allows the research of MOSH/POSH and MOAH from C10 to C35 with limits of quantification between 0.2 and 1mg/kg according to the product.
Phtalates
Phthalates are chemical compounds derived from phthalic acid. They are found in plastic films in particular, and they are also incorporated as fixers in many cosmetic products.
The method developed by Phytocontrol in GC/MS/MS makes it possible to search for 26 phthalates and other plasticisers in alcoholic beverages, milk, fruit and vegetable juices and sodas with unpublished limits of quantification, always within reactive times of 3 to 5 working days.
Bisphenol A
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used primarily in combination with other chemicals in the manufacture of plastics and resins.
Phytocontrol determines the Bisphenol A content in foodstuffs by LC-MS-MS with a limit of quantification of 0.005mg/kg.
Melamine
Melamine is a chemical compound generally used in the manufacture of plastic materials, can coatings, paper and cardboard, but also, in the manufacture of dishes and kitchen utensils. Phytocontrol determines the melamine content in foodstuffs intended for human consumption including infant food as well as in animal feed with a limit of quantification of 0.1 mg/kg. According to EU Regulation No 594/2012 amending EU Regulation No 1881/2006, the maximum level of melamine is 1 mg/kg for infant formula and 2.5 mg/kg for other foods.
Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 of 14 January 2011 and its successive amendments concerning plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.

Melanine
- Melamine is a chemical intermediate used in the manufacture of resins and plastics. The European texts setting limits on this compound are Commission Regulation (EU) No 594/2012 of 5 July 2012 amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 as regards maximum levels for ochratoxin A, non-coplanar PCBs and melamine in foodstuffs. Commission Regulation (EU) No 107/2013 of 5 February 2013 amending Annex I to Directive 2002/32/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council concerns maximum levels for melamine in canned petfood.
