Phytocontrol launches the identification of bacterial strains and yeasts by MALDI TOF technology.
In an approach to control the risk of food contamination by pathogenic agents that can have serious consequences on consumers, it is necessary to use various advanced techniques to confirm and identify all species.
Phytocontrol is growing it’s microbiology department after having validated the MALDI TOF method on all food products and types of water.
MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry or "Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight" is faster than traditional microbiology methods and has the same level of discrimination as these methods. It fulfils the requirements necessary for the identification of food pathogens.
Microorganisms are exposed to a laser beam, their proteins are separated according to their mass and then measured by a detector to define characteristic profiles. These allow the precise identification of a particular microorganism by comparing each profile with the Phytocontrol database, which contains more than 2900 germs !
Our analytical development in species identification coupled with our strategy of data security and storage, ensures the optimal implementation of this new robust and reliable method, a guarantee of expertise and reactivity for the Phytocontrol laboratory.
