On 24 January 2019, a range of infant nutrition products based on rice protein was recalled by a manufacturer following the detection of salmonella. These products come from a Spanish production site.
The French health monitoring system has identified several cases of Salmonella Poona salmonellosis in infants under 2 years of age.
Four infants were infected with the same strain by consuming these products a few days before symptoms appeared.
400,000 boxes were recalled, with products distributed exclusively in pharmacies, through charities and online sales sites.
The day after this recall, another competitor whose products are manufactured at the same Spanish site withdrew 16300 boxes of infant milk as a precautionary and preventive measure.
Please note that your Phytocontrol laboratory is able to carry out research on Salmonella in infant milks and infant nutrition products under COFRAC accreditation. You can consult our COFRAC technical appendix N°1-1904 available in your customer area or on the COFRAC website.
