The Phytocontrol Laboratory analyses chlorothalonil and its 4 metabolites: Chlorothalonil 4-hydroxy, Chlorothalonil R471811, Chlorothalonil SA and Chlorothalonil SYN507900.
In 2023, chlorothalonil received increased media attention due to concerns about its potential impact on human health and the environment.
The ANSES Nancy Hydrology Laboratory, as the national reference laboratory for water intended for human consumption (EDCH), has undertaken a study covering the period 2020-2021. The aim of the study was to detect various emerging compounds in EDCH, including 157 pesticides and metabolites, 54 explosives residues and 1,4-dioxane.
Chlorothalonil is a fungicide widely used in agriculture to control various fungal diseases that affect crops. It is effective against a wide range of fungal pathogens that attack plants, including moulds, leaf spots and rots.
Chlorothalonil has been banned in the EU since 2020. Once applied to crops, the active substance degrades in the form of several metabolites, including Chlorothalonil-R471811, Chlorothalonil 4-hydroxy, Chlorothalonil SYN507900 and Chlorothalonil SA.
Furthermore, chlorothalonil is not very soluble in water, unlike its metabolite chlorothalonil R471811, which is very persistent in water. In its opinion of 26 January 2022, Reference No. "2021-SA-0020-b", ANSES classified chlorothalonil R471811 in the category of relevant metabolites, which means that the molecule is suspected of presenting a risk to human health. As a reminder, the ruling of 11 January 2007 and its successive amendments set a quality limit of 0.1µg/L for pesticides and relevant metabolites in EDCH.
In addition to the Chlorothalonil analysis, Phytocontrol offers you a pack of 4 Chlorothalonil metabolites in response to the regulations in force for EDCH, using cutting-edge technology and very short lead times.
