Regulation (EU) 2021/155 amending Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 has just been published in the OJEU. It modifies MRLs for the following pesticide residues: carbon tetrachloride, chlorothalonil, chlorpropham, dimethoate, ethoprophos, fenamidone, methiocarb, omethoate, propiconazole and pymetrozine.
These residues are all banned in the EU and all existing authorisations for plant protection products containing these active substances have been revoked, so this Regulation lowers their MRLs.
For chlorpropham, an application has been made to take into account possible contamination of potatoes beyond the default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg when stored in facilities with a history of use of this molecule. Due to the specific properties of chlorpropham, the current cleaning operations of storage facilities do not completely avoid residues.
The MRL therefore increases from 10 mg/kg to 0.4 mg/kg for potatoes. However, food business operators are advised to develop a new cleaning method in order to limit the contamination of untreated potatoes.
The Regulation will apply from 02/09/2021.
